Today I’m here to talk about mojo lessons I learned from the one, the only, the incomparable – PRINCE!
His recently released a new album – and I’m LOVING it.
Over the decades that I’ve been a Prince fan, I’m never disappointed. He’s someone who pushes the envelope and always brings something unique to the table.
The last time I saw Prince in concert was a few years ago. I gawked, cheered and danced for hours at the concert. At the end – I realized he knows a thing or two about workin’ the mojo.
And it inspired this week’s video.
Here’s the mojo lessons I learned from Prince:
#1 – Get into it.
From the moment you walk into the stadium to see Prince, you know who’s show it is. There’s no question. It’s everything Prince. From the videos playing on the screens preshow, to the commanding voice over introduction, to his initial reveal on stage (lying on the ground in a sultry pose), to his clothes, to his dancing, instrument playing, on and on and on. He is 1000% committed to being, living, breathing and SHARING Prince with the world. When you’re that dedicated to your mission, whatever it is, people listen and are moved.
#2 – Work Your Groove.
At 50 some years of age, Prince is an incredible example of what’s possible. The way he moves, dances, jumps and struts all over the stage for HOURS is nothing short of knowing how to use your energy. It takes Olympic athlete stamina to pull off his work. However, what’s more important is the fact that he’s fully embodied.
This is when you’re living IN YOUR BODY and relishing in it…no matter what size, shape or age.
#3 – The Little Things.
Hey, I’m not talkin’ about his height here! Prince pays attention to all the details. His wardrobe is specific from the shoes to the jewels. The colors on the stage, the lighting, the other artists clothing, the confetti, the set dressing and more – are clearly a manifestation of his vision.
He knows that all these little things make a BIG difference in the overall experience.
Think about what you can tweak in your life (personally or professionally) that would bring more meaning through a small detail.
#4 – Flow.
The thing that’s always amazed me about Prince (besides his sheer musical genius) is his ability to shift between masculine and feminine expression in an instant. Every notice his ‘symbol’ is a combination of the ones for male and female?
You see, he can give a coy feminine flare smile one minute and then slap the audience with a rockin’ masculine head nod next that says, “I’m the man in charge here”. It’s intoxicating. More importantly, it allows him to stay true to his art and work.
When you know when, how, where and why to transition from masculine to feminine and vice versa, you’ll have more ability to make a statement. You’ll have more of an ability to transform ANY situation. You’ll have control over how you want to be known.
It’s truly workin’ the mojo.
When you connect to your mojo and the tools to cultivate it, you are, as I like to say, totally mojolicious.
